The steps

  1. Ceiling. The room height minus any mat build-up is compared with the golfer height plus 36 inches (minimum) and plus 48 inches (recommended, driver). The monitor figure can only raise the bar, never lower it.
  2. Depth. The minimum is the larger of the stated depth and the distance behind the ball plus the minimum ball to screen distance plus 1.64 ft behind the screen. The recommendation uses the same sum with the recommended ball to screen distance.
  3. Width. The published width, replaced by a wider published figure for tall golfers where a maker states one, and raised to the shared-room figure when right and left handers share.
  4. Each dimension is fits, tight, too small, or not published. The overall result is the worst of them, or not enough data when nothing is published.
  5. Ranking. Monitors that fit, then those that are tight, then by name. Price, popularity and commissions are never used.

The ceiling rule

The club head rises about 3 to 4 ft above the golfer's head at the top of a driver swing. This is a rule of thumb repeated by retailers, not a measured result, and sources disagree on the minimum (8 to 9 ft) and the recommendation (9.35 to 12 ft). We use +36 and +48 inches and say so. See the ceiling height guide.

When sources disagree

We keep one value per field and note the spread on the monitor page, for example "retailers say 14.5 to 21.5 ft". We prefer a maker figure to a retailer figure and label each one.

Gaps we have not filled

  • Garmin Approach R50: no space figures found. The result is always not enough data, and we do not infer from the R10.
  • Maker pages for SkyTrak, Bushnell and Garmin returned errors (HTTP 429 or not found) when we tried again on 12 October 2026. Their figures are retailer statements or search summaries and are labeled that way.
  • No source gives a swing arc width, an irons-only ceiling rule or the depth the golfer needs to stand.
  • No maker states left-handed figures for any monitor.
  • Prices: only the Uneekor EYE MINI shows a price. Other prices are not shown.
  • Projector throw: only the definition of throw ratio is published. Lens shift and golf-specific ratios were not researched.
  • Rain or Shine Golf enclosure sizes: nothing found.
  • The name Golf Room Fit has had a web search only, not a trademark clearance search.
  • Swing arc width for a given golfer height is a data gap.
  • Recommended ratios, lens shift and short-throw guidance for golf were not researched. Stage 2 should not publish a projector recommendation beyond the definition.
